Stuff I Learn When My Kids Are Sick

Yeah. Pamper your skin, right in the privacy of your own home. Because by "pamper your skin," I'm sure they must mean "yank your hair out by the follicles."

So this is some of the stuff I learned while my kids were sick:

1) A bottle of Resolve Pet Stain Remover looks almost exactly the same as Zout Laundry Stain Remover. Also, I'm really glad The-Guy has a gray couch. Also, those two facts have absolutely nothing to do with one another. Almost nothing to do with each other, that is.

2) Raw pizza dough does not respond well to being rinsed in hot water in the sink.

That's why I recommend (for those who spend the time to fix pizza dough from scratch) not spilling an entire vase full of flower water directly onto the dough that took almost two hours to prepare. Because, as it turns out, dough doesn't roll out well after being rinsed off in the sink.

3) My cat, Sugar, likes to play guitar by plucking the strings with his teeth. Okay, so I already knew that. But I never had the opportunity to get a picture before:4) That hot wax stuff that pampers you by yanking the hair from its follicles works WAY better than the cold wax strips. In fact, it works SO well that it will even pluck individual hairs out of your head if you happen to look at the jar too closely.

In fact, the only down side to that hot wax stuff is it's seriously messy. And I can't figure out how to get it off of...well...any number of things.

As the old saying goes, it's been real and it's been fun...but it sure would be great if I were back at work by the time you read this.

  2. You are too freakin' funny. (Do I put that for every comment I leave?? - hey, it's true!)
    Love the stain remover thing.
My friend's son called her at work one day,
"Mom, where do you keep the stain remover stuff?"
    "Why?"
    "........just wondering........"

  5. I'm pretty impressed by a domesticated animal that has skills like that! Haha I am thankful that I do not use nor need to pamper myself with hot wax. :)

  6. Janet - No particular song. He just plucks any old string as far as I can tell.

    Thanks Kerry!

A Free Man - Would you believe I STILL have one sick? Today makes a full week of one child or the other with fever.

    Thanks Maureen!

Derek - Yeah, guys pretty much luck out that way. ALTHOUGH it does say on the instructions that the hot wax can also be used on men. Because so many men want to smell like lavender when they wax...

  7. Waxing eloquent about wax. This is why I love your posts also because they are funny and well-written but mostly it's the wax.

  9. Do they have a reality show for America's most talented pets? Your cat should be on that show.

  10. One of my first experiences with "Hyporcrisy" was when I was in the mega-food market and for some reason or another, I got to reading labels and discovered that the contents of a tin of Slim-Fast diet drink was EXACTLY the same as the contents of a tin of Nestle's Quick chocolate drink for children. Only difference, Slim-Fast = $3.75, Nestle's Quick = $2.10. Gotta love the interaction between capitalism and the ego driven American consumer.

(if your cat can play 'Classical Gas', I want to see the video.)

  12. You sure do learn about stuff when your kids are sick but then...you learn about stuff in general!

Hot wax does work better than cold wax and what freaked me out is wax that smells like dessert. I'm referring to the wax that removes unwanted hair of course! I once tried "white chocolate wax" that was water soluble. It's purpose seemed to be to make a big mess by sticking to what you didn't want it to stick to. I'm not a big white chocolate fan (more super dark chocolate) and this wax didn't help.

Regarding removing this wax...it depends on where you spill it. Usual trick is to use and ice cube on it so it hardens and then you can chip it off. If you spill it on a rug and it soaks...try the ice cube trick then if there is still stuff, cover with a rag or maybe even a paper napkin and use a hot clothes iron over the cloth to melt the wax into the rag.

There's one benefit to being Chinese - little body hair! I'm not sure how the Chinese guys feel but as a Chinese woman...shaving and large amounts of waxing...eeek!

  14. Oh my gosh - I forgot I was this far behind in comment answering!

Thanks SJ!!!! I hereby dedicate all future wax posts especially to you!! :-)

Alf - I think so too!

Lara - I'm sure they must, right? :-)

Bruce - How strange!!!!!!!! I wonder how they get Slim fast to taste so awful then!!?!?!?

DJ Kirkby - Glad I could amuse you with our misery!!!!! :-) :-) :-)

Ms.Q - Yeah, I've tried the wax a couple more times and although I LOVE how much faster it is than the cold wax strips, I still can't help making a gigantic mess no matter how careful I am. I still have a good bit left in the jar, so I guess I have awhile before I have to decide whether or not to buy it again.
