I Forgot to Leave Time for Breathing

Within the past twelve months, in addition to working and parenting and doing laundry and stuff I have: gotten married, celebrated my boy's bar mitzvah, started a Master's Degree and come within three weeks of finishing it (okay, twenty days). It's a lot for one year.

When people at work asked how I could possibly complete a Master's in only one year, I answered with the God's honest truth:

I cried a lot.

I don't recommend speeding through like that AT ALL. Although it may be preferable to prolonging the misery, who knows?

This week, I somehow managed to take 500 and something pictures of My Sweet Pea's school play, three of which are suitable for this blog (because they don't feature other kids...privacy and all). Presenting Veruca Salt:

Meanwhile, My Boy made a joke:

For whatever reason he was allowed to watch The Grudge at his dad's house. Fully aware of my disapproval, My Boy remained quiet as I interrogated him...
Me - "What was the name of that movie you saw? The Ghost? The Grime?"
Him - No response
Me - "The Grime? The Grin? The Grudge? The Glove?"
Him - No response
Me - "It was something scary that started with a 'g'..."
Him - "The Gas Prices!!!"
He's right. I'm terrified. And that's about it for another week!

  1. Yay for you for suriving the whirlwind and YAY for Cassie for being a star and BOO to Jared for watching forbidden movies ( or at least, watching them and letting your mom know about it)

  4. I'm exhausted just reading what you've been going through! Your daughter looks adorable. I bet she was fantastic! How did they get the Violet to turn into a blueberry on stage?

  6. 1) Masters in 1 year - been there, done that! Getting married in the same year - now that is pushing crazy!
    2) great pictures of your daughter's play - very good close-ups.
    3) I've seen the same movie (and I drive a high-test, gas guzzling SUV)

  7. Thanks Cid! In Jared's defense, I did tell him that he was old enough to choose his own movies once he had his bar mitzvah...

Annabelle & Suzy - Yeah, it has been! Definitely ready for a vacation!

    Thanks Angela!

Kerry - Thanks Kerry! She had an over sized dress and something underneath inflated. My stepgal asked me too - I guess I should have taken a peek when I was helping with costumes so I'd have a more accurate answer!

Tracy - Aren't they though?!?! And thank you!

  10. Hahahahah! You are awesome :-D
Good for you knocking off your Masters in record time. I managed 2 subjects before I wimped out in the face of work and laundry (and poverty! each subject cost $1000!!!!)
Love Veruca. I think my BA would like to play that part too. And Blah on the other parent letting them see totally inappropriate movies. most of the time her dad and I are on the same page but sometimes she comes back and tells me what she's watched and my hair curls!!!!!!!!!! I don't get it :-(

  11. masters in a year? im impressed.

it took me about 3 1/2 years.. for me to complete it, it had to impact my life as little as possible or i would have quit, so i went as slow as i could handle.

  14. Thanks Reds! YES!!!! SUPER busy! Busy enough to forget to come back and answer comments for three days...oops...

Arizaphale - Oh yeah, I bet she would! My sweet pea LOVED it! All the kids seemed to have a really great time, actually!

Slyde - Yeah, I think I'm the opposite. As soon as I know I have to do something, I want to get it over with as quickly as possible!

Thanks Leilani! I wish mine were as THICK as hers! :-)

    Thanks Marlene!

  16. She'll be doing the triquel to Oz in a few years, very cute.

I don't feel so alone anymore regarding getting dumbed down questions. :) Cool thing though, even though they're allowed to watch major slash/horror at their mom's...they haven't become psychos.

They already resembled their mother before she left. :)

  17. I have to assume that from the Umpa Lumpa in the background, the play was Willy Wonka. I had to sit through this last year to watch a friends kid do it.......never again....I have paid my dues.

(she looks cute in the pictures though)

  18. DJ Kirkby - I hadn't either, but I'm pretty sure it's something I wouldn't have let him watch. Then again, I wouldn't let him watch most stuff...

John - Yeah, I wasn't so much worried about him turning psycho as I was about him losing sleep over it at night. He's a good one, really.

Bruce - This is the second time for us. Her and her brother were in it a few years ago. So I've seen it...oh...maybe...let's see including dress rehearsals maybe 6-8 times? But since it is my own kid, I just don't get tired of it.
