First and Foremost, I'm not in Israel Anymore. I am Infatuated With Palm Trees Though. Apparently.

It turns out that I confused a couple of people, which is not unusual. These are pictures from our second day in Israel. I'm not STILL in Israel though. I'm just really, really slow at posting the pictures.

I took about six kajillion photos of palm trees. I'll spare you all but these few though:

day 2 palms

day 2 more palms

day 2 palms 4

Actually, I lied. Here are a few more:

Day 2 palms 3

Day 2 palms 2

Day 2 more and more palms

Most of the palm tree pictures I took out of the car window on the way to the Dead Sea at Ein Gedi. The water in the Dead Sea is some of the saltiest on earth and I can tell you from personal experience that it tastes terrible; I would never have imagined that there's a big problem with people drinking it. But it seems I'm just lacking in imagination:

Day 2 Dead Sea

Here's the Dead Sea:

Day 2 Dead Sea boat

And here are The-Guy, My Boy, and Older and Younger Gal a floatin' in the salty stuff:

Day 2 Dead Sea swimming

All that stuff near the bottom of the picture you can sort of see under the water are like rocks covered in salt or rocks made of salt. The salt just chunks up like this:

Day 2 dead sea salt crystal

day 2 dead sea salt crystal
And since that's probably about as many palm trees and salt rocks most people need to see on any given day, I'll stop for now. Have a great weekend everyone!

Those trees are beautiful, I would have taken a lot of photo's of them as well.
I have always wanted to float in the salt water.
Isn't it so interesting what all the different parts of the world have to offer.

Reds - Yeah! Never too many palm trees!
:-) :-) :-)

Thanks Tracy! I actually wasn't that crazy last time we went, but this time I really enjoyed it (even though I had told myself I wasn't even going to go in!).

being fat, I never have any problem floating without the help of excess salt. LOL

This is so awesome!
My husband and I have big plans to travel all over the US and part of Canada... and who knows where else after that!
I love to see travel photos... I'm the one person who stays on your couch while you go through your vacation photo albums. =]

Are you familiar with the phrase "facepalm"? ;) http://www.google.co.in/search?q=facepalm

NICE STUFF!! You got out of Israel just in time. There was some unrest there recently and it would have been no fun to get caught up with that.

Mz-Cellaneous - I was trying to explain to my four year olds in class yesterday the difference between swimming lesson floating and floating in the Dead Sea. I mostly got blank looks. They sort of took it for granted that one could float in water.

Thanks Marlene!

That's funny Sarah!!!!

No SJ! You've introduced me to a whole new term!!!!

Thanks Ricardo! And I keep hearing that about getting out. But then I think, "But well...our cousins and all the other Israelis are still there". So then I just hope it mostly would have been the airport hassle they're talking about. Plus my friend's son is there now and my daughter goes back very soon.

You live in the subtropics. You could have a palm tree at home, if you really wanted to.

All that salt makes me want a pretzel.

This actually reminds me of my room during highschool. I had an obsession with palm trees.

And my mom said "Tell her hi and I hope she had fun in Isreal!" ...she couldn't quite get the commenty bit to work on her connection. :)

Cid - I DO have a palm tree in the back yard!!!!!!!!!! Actually, I say "I" do. Actually The-Guy is in charge of commanding the plants, so I should really say that "he" has a palm tree...

Thanks Cbeck! Tell your mom I said hi and that we did have fun!!

I have four palm trees in the back yard and one in the front and they are messy and expensive to prune. Have you ever tried to cut through one of those leaves with a pruning saw? No? Don't bother. Call the chainsaw guy :-)
Love your salt pix too.

Was that a palm oil farm or a desert reclamation project or something? The palms are so close together. It's lovely, really. All your pictures are nice! I never see good photography of Israel. The Salt Sea is amazing. To think that big chunks of salt just form there, and people drink it! Crazy! I hope we can go one day.

Arizaphale - I married the chainsaw guy. I just call him The-Guy-Who-Knows-A-Song-About-A-Chicken. :-) :-) :-) I'm kidding! For reasons that are unfathomable to me (yet for which I remain grateful), he does love doing that kind of thing. I don't think he really used a chainsaw, but he did saw through a bunch of those things and they were impressively thick.

Thank you Marcy! I think the palm trees are all orderly like that because they are date orchards.

I want to go to Israel.
Friends of ours go a few times a year and bring back the most wonderful body lotion made from the Dead Sea minerals - Ahava. Love it.
