Camping is just like skiing. And Brooklyn is just like Israel. Except without the holy sites and the jet lag.

For my birthday, The Boonga gave me a new camera lens and a heart attack. Well, actually The-Guy helped her out with the lens and it was two heart attacks, not just one. It turns out that I hadn't realized she learned to climb onto the couch herself until I saw her walking along the couch in her cowboy boots. My gasp (I gave up gasping around 2007, but it seemed appropriate anyway) caused her to look my way, falling backward in the process.

The other heart attack has been mercifully erased from my memory, but I'm sure it had something to do with eating something, probably a thumb tack. Today's diet of choice, the insides to a magic marker, preferably garnished with some sequence from her pants.

I recently went to Brooklyn, which turns out to have Hebrew to spare:

Even the garbage in Brooklyn is kosher:

Someone told me that the writing might be Yiddish. But that's beside the point. The point is, in Brooklyn you can buy the Israeli chocolate bars that have the pop rocks in them that you can never find anywhere in Texas!

Just after I got back from Brooklyn, we went camping, which is exactly like skiing. I hate skiing. I hate getting up extra early and rushing through breakfast to get there early enough. I hate the cold walk from the car to the lodge. I hate waiting in line to buy a ticket and then waiting in line to rent the boots and waiting in line to rent the skis. I hate getting all that stuff on and wearing hats and gloves. I hate waiting in line to ride the lift and I hate having cold toes and I hate it when the wind blows when you're up on the lift or when the lift stops and you have to sit up there in the cold. And I hate taking off the boots and returning the skis and trying to find your own boots and walking back to the car with frozen toes and the long ride home.

But I LOVE going down the mountain. Just enough to do all that other stuff.

Camping is exactly the same, except it's a hundred degrees instead of cold. They're both wonderful and horrible at the same time. But not at the exact same time.

Except one other difference...a baby hardly ever vomits in your hair when you're skiing.

Hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend!

You are completely correct. I've never been skiing though.
Happy New Year!

So did you stay awake until you got to Brooklyn?

Camping is worth the hassle if only for the awesome photo ops. Gorgeous shots, I guess you were breakin in the new glass?

LOl, how have you survived that adorable little girl and all her getting into, lol.
Can you believe I have never been down hill skiing and I live in Northern Canada!!
But then again I hate the cold as well...why do I live here again ;)

Thanks Mark! And Happy New Year!

Cid - No way! The baby was home with dad, so I slept as much of the trip as I could! And the rope swing picture (kids on the rock), the swimming/hug right under it, and daddy carrying baby are all with my new lens!

Tracy - what's really nice is to go when it's almost too warm to go. :-)

Lara, I read that backwards at first - that my new lens was darling and you wanted a new baby! :-) :-) :-)

Slyde - Does it make any difference that I was there less than 24 hours.

I am behind the eight ball(ie late) again.
Firstly, those shots with the new lens are awesome!!!! They are so clear, the skin tones so...oh I don't know...Himself would have the right words. I just see and know that they are awesome. SERIOUSLY awesome. Two: I LOVE LOVE LOVE skiing even though I haven't been for 18 years now. I am booked to go with my sister in January and I am both excited and terrified that I will have forgotten how do to it. I remember once getting on the bus after a day on the slopes and remarking that 'this feels so good when you STOP'! Three: I had a similar experience looking down on the BA from the middle landing of a set of stairs. "BA" I called, "Stop!!!" she looked up at me and ....yup...toppled backwards. Heart attacks aside that Boonga is drop dead gorgeous. She may make you serious money in the future!!! :-)

Thanks Arizaphale! I am seriously enjoying the new lens and I've been working hard on my skin tones. But then my monitor bit the dust, so I'm glad I can at least still get them in the ballpark! :-) BTW, you should be getting a package from Texas soon. :-)
